Mariposa Blouse

It’s got volume, ruffles, and a quirky print. This Mariposa blouse makes me smile every time I see it.

The floral Tana lawn is from Liberty Fabrics’ Spring 2020 collection, and it features a whimsical print that reminds me of The Fool’s psychedelic aesthetic. I love the vibrant colours resulting from Liberty’s unique blend of traditional screen printing and digital printing techniques. With its silky, smooth hand, Tana Lawn is a real treat to sew and wear. It also pairs well with the organic cotton voile I used for the bust.

There is a lot of potential for mix-and-matching with the Mariposa blouse by Lysimaque. The pattern works with all sorts of fabrics. Lysimaque’s instructions provide tips and alternatives depending on the material, like doubling the bust ruffle for lighter fabrics. I cut a size 36 and made no adjustment. The blouse’s big volume/short length ratio is spot on for me, and that bust ruffle is darling. I’ve been wearing this breezy piece a lot despite Montreal’s cold winter. Mind you, I’m still on mat leave and I spend most of my time indoors taking care of my 6-month-old. Bonus point: The baby loves it too. A huge smile spreads across her face, and she suddenly grabs the string or ruffles to pull really hard. Testing the stitch strength is good, I guess. It’s also adorable!

3 ways I've been wearing the mariposa blouse.

Overall, I am happy with this make, and you’d like to catch a glimpse of it in motion, check out this short Reel on IG.
